Selected COVID-19 Resources by Dr. Rando
The COVID-19 pandemic is presenting death and non-death losses to people that are leading to personal traumatization, complicated mourning, failures in adaptation, and serious mental and physical health problems. Dr. Rando has been involved in educating the public and professionals in how best to cope. Below is a selection of her work.
I. Public Education — YouTube Videos
With her colleague Dr. Ken Doka, Dr. Rando created three YouTube videos to speak specifically to persons dealing with COVID-19 deaths, with COVID-19-related deaths of despair (e.g., suicide, unintentional overdoses, or the withering away of isolated elderly), or with "routine" deaths that transpire during the pandemic (e.g., heart attack, car crashes, cancer, or accidents) when people are under such duress and are separated from some of their social support and traditional coping resources. The goal is to explain plainly to people what they are encountering and to give them tips for coping with it healthily at this point and in the future.
